Over the last two years I have been experimenting using machine embroidery and appliqué techniques to create vibrant textile this piece is early in my experimentation and is a portrait of three friends. Size 30cm x 15cm
Final piece 90cm x 44cm
These squares of molar and machine appliqué/embroidery. They are portraits of my mother in different poses and the concept was around adults still feeling childlike inside and enjoying play, the figure I portray shows someone floating around and rolling amidst a haze of pattern representing private thoughts and brain space. I hand dyed the layers of fabric and cut through the machine embroidered layers to create a textural 3D effect. Each square is 20cm x 20 cm and can be seen in the final piece above.
The tree above was my first attempt at creating a layered and textured fabric composition. I loved using different types of fabrics od different weights as it added to the overall texture. The piece is 25cm x 12cm.
This piece featuring two men holding snowballs echoes my theme of adults enjoying playing like children. I used a subtle colour scheme to create a sense of cold. 29cm x 18cm
